Couldn't make it to the hackathon? Build it anyway.
This submission track is for members who can't attend live and want to build an independent project on their own time.
Pick a track, build a deployed project (Web or mobile app) that tackles it, and submit here by Tuesday at 11:59 PM.
These will be the same tracks that were originally used for Codebox Hacks.
Track 1 - 10 Minutes Back
Between finding parking, waiting for food, coordinating group projects, navigating campus systems, and handling repetitive tasks, small inefficiencies add up. Find one frustrating piece of everyday life at Cal Poly - or anywhere else - and build something that gives people time back.
Track 2 - The Learning Curve
Education is full of opportunities to make difficult things clearer, more engaging, and more accessible. Build a tool, experience, platform, or experiment that improves how people learn, teach, study, collaborate, or navigate academic life.
Track 3 - Hidden Cal Poly
Great ideas do not always fit neatly into a category. Use this track to build something original that responds to a problem, need, or opportunity you have noticed, whether that be at Cal Poly, in your community, or beyond. If your idea fits into one of the other tracks, start there; if not, bring it to life here.
Track 4 - Outside the box
Cal Poly is full of opportunities, resources, people, events spaces, clubs, classes, and knowledge that students often only discover by accident. Build something that surfaces what people are missing – whether that's an underused campus resource, the right teammates, an opportunity, or something beyond campus entirely.
Requirements
Your submission must include:
- A deployed project. Not just code sitting in a repo — it needs to be live and usable. Include the link.
- A GitHub repo link with your source code.
- A 5-minute demo video (uploaded to YouTube, unlisted, or a platform like Loom) covering:
- Your tech stack
- Which track you built for, and why
- The problem you set out to solve
- Why you built it (your motivation/inspiration)
- A recorded walkthrough/demo/presentation of the working project
